"Best practices" has been discussed in nearly every field of endeavor, yet what does it really mean? Ideally, the term means that the work is done according to high standards that have arisen in an industry. In practice, there is rarely agreement on what constitutes best practices. This makes the terminology very problematic to discriminating recipients of the services and products promoted in this way.
The following characteristics are the specifics promoted by the work seen in this site, which constitute the "best practices" that have been employed for clients' projects:
- Appropriate software tools are used to implement the project as per the requirements.
- The clients are involved in the design process.
- Current standard practices in design are prioritized over expediency.
- Projects are designed to facilitate future changes and developments.
Each project will have unique requirements, so there is no universal formula for a best practices development strategy. Yet even though best practices are often informal, they are informative; it is a way of discussing quality more substantially than simply using the word "quality". Finally, it represents the opportunity to discuss expectations and implement approaches to produce better results than would otherwise be achieved.
